Donald Trump has been absolutely unhinged ever since the New York Times released a very damaging op-ed about him, leading to Trump demanding an investigation into finding which one of his administration members was behind it. Trump actually called this administration betrayal an issue of “national security” and is putting pressure on Attorney General Jeff Session to act, making this circus even more laughable.
Earlier today, when Trump was aboard Air Force One, he said:
I would say Jeff should be investigating who the author of that piece was because I really believe it’s national security.”
Finally, the Times has responded to the president and it’s going to make Trump even more upset. Responding to the president’s demand that the media outlet reveal who the anonymous op-ed writer was, the Times brazenly stated that what Trump was doing was a “blatant abuse of government power”:
We’re confident that the Department of Justice understands that the First Amendment protects all American citizens and that it would not participate in such a blatant abuse of government power.
The President’s threats both underscore why we must safeguard the identity of the writer of this Op-Ed and serve as a reminder of the importance of a free and independent press to American democracy.”

The Times is dead on with that response. Just look at Trump’s meltdown from earlier this week, when he tried to threaten and scare the Times into giving up the writer of the op-ed on Twitter:
Does the so-called “Senior Administration Official” really exist, or is it just the Failing New York Times with another phony source? If the GUTLESS anonymous person does indeed exist, the Times must, for National Security purposes, turn him/her over to government at once!”

Trump can throw a temper tantrum all he wants, but America is standing with our free press.
