Recently, it was reported that Donald Trump’s team may be heading in a new direction in his horrific quest to seek a second term. Apparently, Trump’s team is considering removing Vice President Mike Pence from the 2020 ticket, which is sure to make relations between the two men over the next two years even more awkward.
Trump’s relationship with his VP has been rocky, to say the least. There have been several times where Pence has contradicted his boss and even made him look bad. But then, proving that the Trump administration is completely dysfunctional and can’t take a clear stance on anything, Pence has also defended Trump in the most disgusting of ways.
We saw Pence’s loyalty to Trump a few weeks ago when the president was in France and decided to ditch the WWI memorial because of a little rain. As former President Barack Obama and many other former presidents have braved far worse weather conditions to honor our veterans, the president further ruined his reputation and pretty much gave up any hope that he might be looked at as a semi-respectable leader one day.
The backlash to this decision was so bad that Trump had to make his Vice President, Mike Pence, defend him in an infuriating opinion piece for Fox News. Pence had been silent on this matter, but he eventually came through to defend his boss. In the piece, Pence said that veterans “have no better friend” than Trump. Clearly ignoring that Trump has done tons to screw over our veterans, Pence said:
It is written that ‘if you owe debts, pay debts; if honor, then honor; if respect, then respect.’ The debt our nation owes those who have worn the uniform is a debt we will never be able to fully repay.
But just as those courageous men and women have fought for us, our entire administration has fought for them. Veterans have no better friend than President Trump.”
Pence also said that the Trump administration has “taken decisive action” to improve veterans’ health care.
President Trump has taken action to hold the VA [Department of Veterans Affairs] accountable, signing the Veterans Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act. Since our election, more than 4,200 VA employees have been fired, suspended or demoted for negligent behavior.
Our actions are having a real impact on the men and women who have sacrificed for our country: health-care wait times are down, VA accountability is up, and under our administration unemployment among veterans has reached its lowest level in nearly two decades.”
Trump ended the piece by telling Americans to “thank a veteran” to celebrate the 100th Veterans Day.
To all of those who’ve worn the uniform, on behalf of a grateful nation, Happy Veterans Day.”
Everyone knows that Trump is no “friend” to veterans and has disrespected the men and women who serve our country multiple times. Trump doesn’t give a sh*t, and Pence is just as bad for defending him. Trump is going to have a hard time finding a potential VP who is going to bend over backwards like this for him.
