Donald Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, are struggling in their roles at President and First Lady — nothing has ever been more obvious. Trump is falling apart and becomes more unhinged with every passing day, and Melania has pretty much done nothing but hide in the almost two years she’s been FLOTUS. That’s not to say she didn’t have options to do better, though. In fact, former FLOTUS Michelle Obama — who was an exceptional and much loved First Lady — even offered to help Melania in her role. Melania turned it down.
This was revealed in an interview Michelle did on Sunday with ABC’s Robin Roberts, which was part of her promotions for her new book, Becoming. During the interview, Roberts pointed out that Laura Bush had offered Michelle advice, from one FLOTUS to another, if she felt she needed it. During this discussion, Michelle stated that she had offered that same kindness to Melania — but that she had been rejected.
Clearly upset that this news was coming to light, Melania’s spokesperson Stephan Grisham made a statement about whether or not Melania had been offended by Michelle’s offer to assist her. The response put out by Melania’s team was disgraceful. As reported by CNN’s Kate Bennett, the response was:
Mrs. Trump is a strong and independent woman who has been navigating her role as First Lady in her own way. When she needs advice on any issue, she seeks it from her professional team within the White House.”
That’s exactly what we would expect from the Trump administration. But Bennett continued to expose Melania’s lies — she pointed out that the First Lady had tried to get advice from Laura Bush, but not Michelle.
last year @laurawbush told @BrookeBCNN that she had been in touch with @FLOTUS. “I’ve talked to Melania,” she said. “I’ve been back and had tea with her.” Apparently, an invitation for @MichelleObama to do the same was not extended.

Exposing this truth bomb made Melania’s team furious, and Grisham fired back at Bennett:
I wouldn’t characterize is as “clapping back” Kate. I was asked a question & I gave an answer, which is my job. Seems silly to to try & apply emotions to my answers or try to stir up trouble. https://t.co/CkIco9Zj6M

Bennett, with the class that would have never have come from the Trump administration, fixed her tweet to be less controversial:
Fair. I didn’t use the term the correct way. https://t.co/N9EWRByqFx

. @StephGrisham45’s response to CNN, re @MichelleObama’s comments: Mrs. Trump is a strong and independent woman who has been navigating her role as First Lady in her own way. When she needs advice on any issue, she seeks it from her professional team within the White House.”

I deleted my “clap back” tweet and rewrote it because it implies something that wasn’t a thing. I am a human person 🙋🏼♀️

Melania could have used all the advice she could get from Michelle — but she actively chose to be terrible and inactive in her role instead. No wonder the Trump administration is failing.
