Donald Trump’s longtime personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, has done a complete 180° on the president over the last few weeks. Unfortunately for Trump, it seems like the worst is yet to come. Not only has Cohen broken off from the president’s inner circle, but he’s also made several public statements about how he would put America and his family first and would not be throwing himself under the bus for the president. Today, Cohen made another statement that will deeply concern Trump.
While Trump continuously refers to the press as the “enemy of the people,” his former lawyer has taken a different stance now that he’s not working for the president. Last night, Cohen shared a quote from late newscaster Walter Cronkite, which was a direct dig at Trump. He wrote:
‘Freedom of the press is not just important to democracy, it is democracy.’ -Walter Cronkite As we contend with the crazed 24/7 news cycle, it has never been more important than it is now for everyone to distinguish between innuendo and fact.”

That is pretty much the opposite of any stance that Trump has taken on the media. Cohen is reminding America how essential it is to have a free press. To rub even more salt in Trump’s wounds, Cohen tweeted this just hours after Trump trashed the “Fake News Media,” calling it the “real enemy of the people.” Trump wrote:
The Summit with Russia was a great success, except with the real enemy of the people, the Fake News Media. I look forward to our second meeting so that we can start implementing some of the many things discussed, including stopping terrorism, security for Israel, nuclear……..

This is a great example of how Cohen is breaking away from Trump and starting to reinvent himself. More and more, he is looking like the guy that will flip on Trump and whose voice could take the president down.
