There have been many disasters throughout Donald Trump’s presidency, but one of the most mysterious ones has been his unraveling marriage to First Lady Melania Trump. Not only has the First Lady been MIA several times due to Trump’s continuous humiliation of her thanks to his affairs and sex scandals, but many people have observed that during Melania’s recent solo tour of Africa, the First Lady actually looked the happiest she’s ever been — without her husband!
Adding to speculation about the turmoil in their marriage, Melania has recently weighed in on her husband’s tweets, growing more bold in her criticism of him. While in Egypt, Melania took advantage of the fact that The Donald was nowhere near her and told reporters that she didn’t like Trump’s tweets and has even told him to put the phone down. When reporters asked if she’d ever told her husband to put his phone down, the First Lady said yes:
I don’t always agree [with] what he tweets, and I tell him that. I give him my honest opinion and honest advice. Sometimes he listens and sometimes he doesn’t, but I have my own voice and my opinions and it’s very important for me that I express what I feel.”
If there’s one thing that Trump doesn’t like, it’s when women express themselves. Or stand up to him. Or basically, say or do anything that doesn’t allow him to take advantage of them. Melania also touched on the Kavanaugh fiasco,and made a statement that could also be applied to her husband. She said:
I’m against any kind of abuse or violence.”
There has been wide speculation about whether or not Trump has abused Melania, as there are various instances caught on film of the First Lady flinching when her husband touches her — so that’s a powerful statement.
Melania should hardly be celebrated as she’s complicit with her husband’s disgusting treatment of women and hateful policies, but the fact that she is distancing herself from him is noteworthy. In the meantime, we can expect that Melania’s criticism of the president’s tweets is going to lead to more tension and time apart for the unhappy presidential couple.
