As the Trump presidency comes bursting open at the seams after evidence surfaced of the President lying about his knowledge of the 2016 Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer who promised dirt on Hillary Clinton in exchange for a lifting of sanctions on the Motherland, it seems appropriate to give the worst administration in American history a fitting send-off.
For us here at DC Tribune, that means revisiting some of the greatest hits of both TrumpCo gaffes and of Americans standing up to what many have always felt was an illegitimately elected troupe of pretenders to democracy.
Almost no member of the Trump administration was a more prominent face in the early days of his presidency than Kellyanne Conway, but we’ll skip the obvious stuff about her inventing the phrase “alternative facts” and her facility with making up facts on the spot, even during news appearances. That’s low-hanging fruit.
Today I want to remind you of not just one man’s way of sending a message to Kellyanne of how America feels about her, but how early on after the inauguration he had an opportunity and the courage to do so.
Back in March 2017, just 43 days after Trump was seated in the Oval Office, Kellyanne Conway was already the face of the administration. So when she found herself face to face with a constituent, she was eager to show how “cool” the new administration was — so she posed for a selfie with “fan” Alfredo Pelicci. But Kellyanne didn’t know that Pelicci was no fan at all. As he leaned back with her to snap the photo, he instructed her to say, instead of cheese, “I’m ruining America!”
It’s unequivocally true that she was helping to ruin America, even at just a little more than a month into her job at the White House. But Kellyanne was less than thrilled.

It’s nice to be reminded sometimes that we’re not alone in feeling the way we do, and once the Trump adminstration is completely scrubbed from history, there will be no more need for reminders like this. Of course, we’ll keep this video, just for… you know, safekeeping.
