Donald Trump is currently realizing why he shouldn’t attack black athletes. Not only is NFL player Colin Kaepernick and Nike scoring higher sales and popularity than ever thanks to the president’s attacks on their new ad campaign, but NBA player LeBron James continues to get praise for his public activism. And unfortunately for Trump’s fragile ego, these athletes aren’t afraid to put him on blast.
James recently gave an interview to the Hollywood Reporter, where the basketball player and social activist did not hesitate to discuss the president and take several shots at America’s lazy Tweeter in Chief. James directly responded to the president’s insults against him, when Trump tried to attack James’ intelligence right after he’d opened up a school for impoverished children. Trump tweeted:
Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!

During the interview, James brushed off Trump’s comments with a laugh and pointed out just how pathetic Trump was. The Hollywood Reporter wrote:
Asked if it bothers him that the president called him dumb, James just laughs. ‘No, because I’m not,’ he says. ‘That’s like somebody saying I can’t play ball. That doesn’t bother me at all. What bothers me is that he has time to even do that. He has the most powerful job in the world. Like, you really got this much time that you can comment on me?'”
James also talked about Serena Williams, women, and being a black athlete — all subjects that will make Trump’s blood boil. James said:
Having a daughter, explains James, is one reason he can relate to Serena Williams’ Sept. 8 agitation during the U.S. Open women’s final where she was penalized for arguing repeatedly with a male umpire (another reason, presumably, is being a superstar athlete). ‘What we all have to understand is what she is fighting for is bigger than just that match,’ he says. ‘She is fighting for equality — always having to win more, more, more, just to feel equal. Being an African-American woman playing in a predominantly white sport, she’s dealing with so much more. I have no idea what was going on in her head, but I feel that struggle.'”
James’ words are exactly what Trump is afraid of, as people respect and listen to him far more than the president. Trump has been basically silent since this interview came out, and he’s probably terrified to respond considering how bad the backlash is every time he goes after James. Hopefully, Trump will keep his mouth shut.
