Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh might feel like he’s won the battle against Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and the several other women who accused him of sexually assault, but this nightmare is far from over. Just because his final vote is scheduled for tomorrow and he managed to convince a few swing Senators to vote in his favor does not mean that this is going to go away — especially with this latest development.
One of Kavanaugh’s classmates has just come forward to reveal a text message that exposes him for trying to tamper with one of the potential witnesses to a sexual assault he was accused of committing. According to NBC News, Kavanaugh’s classmate Kathy Charlton learned that the nominee had called an acquaintance and told him to tell the press “no bad” if they asked him about the accusations.
Charlton stated that on September 21, just two days after Deborah Ramirez came forward with her accusations against Kavanaugh, that the acquaintance sent her an all-caps text about keeping Kavanaugh’s tampering a secret. The text said:
Don’t F****** TELL PEOPLE BRETT GOT IN TOUCH WITH ME!!! I TOLD YOU AT THE TIME THAT WAS IN CONFIDENCE!!!”
The identity of the person who sent that text message to Charlton has not been revealed but is known to the network. NBC also reported that the man who texted Charlton that message was called out by Ramirez as a potential witness to the incident in which the Supreme Court nominee put his genitals in her face. Charlton had stated in a letter to the FBI (which was shared yesterday with Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley):
From the content and all capital letters of the text (the alleged witness) seemed to feel that there was a great deal at stake for Brett if Brett’s fears of exposure ever became public.”
Regardless of whether Kavanaugh is confirmed or not tomorrow, we can expect that more of this shady behavior is going to come to light.
