Courageous Republican Senator John McCain has just announced this morning that he has chosen to discontinue medical treatment after an extremely brave, long-fought battle with glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is a rare form of brain cancer that McCain was diagnosed with last July, and he vigorously fought against the illness while remaining as involved in America’s future as much as he could.
This morning, McCain’s daughter, View co-host Meghan McCain, posted the family’s statement to Twitter, communicating McCain’s difficult decision with the world. The statement read:
[T]he progress of disease and inexorable advance of age render their verdict. With his usual strength of will, he has now chosen to discontinue medical treatment.”
McCain’s daughter posted her own heartfelt message with the statement:
My family is deeply appreciative of all the love and generosity you have shown us during this past year. Thank you for all your continued support and prayers. We could not have made it this far without you — you’ve given us strength to carry on.”

America is stunned by this news, and the GOP is currently in shock and panicking, terrified to imagine what the party’s future might look like without a strong, moral character and hero like McCain. In response, many politicians have sent McCain and his family their thoughts and prayers in this difficult time, honoring McCain’s life and contribution to America:
Very sad to hear this morning’s update from the family of our dear friend @SenJohnMcCain. We are so fortunate to call him our friend and colleague. John, Cindy, and the entire McCain family are in our prayers at this incredibly difficult hour.

As usual, Donald Trump has yet to respond to this news, but he will eventually. In the meantime, let’s not forget that Trump has repeatedly insulted and attacked McCain and made fun of the war hero for being captured. Trump deserves no credit if he decides to send McCain kind words.
