According to a breaking report from ABC News, Donald Trump’s longtime personal attorney Michael Cohen has entered into a plea agreement with federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York.
This follows on the heels of a report yesterday in the New York Times that Cohen was being investigated for bank fraud of amounts in excess of $20 million.
This could spell disaster for his former boss, who is certainly watching the proceedings with Cohen even more closely than the case against his former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, whose own charges were expected to force him to turn state’s evidence against the President.
In the case of Cohen, the lawyer has already signaled that he intends to put “country first” and take care of his own family before considering any loyalties to the President.
This story is breaking and we will update as necessary.
UPDATE:
Jennifer Jacobs, a reporter for Bloomberg News, has just reported that Cohen is expected in court today at 4 pm EST, which at the time of this writing is in less than one and a half hours.
