Trump isn't doing anything about Russia — and Congress isn't standing for it.

Donald Trump’s refusal to crack down on Russia despite the recent indictments made by Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the overwhelming evidence presented by U.S. intelligence agencies has become more concerning than ever. Particularly after Trump got soft and defended Putin during their press conference a few days ago, America has been left worrying about what is going to happen in future elections.

That’s why there was a major protest held on the House floor today, as House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer gave a fiery speech calling for more election security funding. The speech ended with Democrats chanting “USA!” in support of the measure.

This speech was made to protest a spending bill that would eliminate more funding for states’ election security grants. In his speech, Hoyer said:

It would be inaccurate to say that this is a vote about process. It is a vote about substance… Surely we can rise above pandering to party and Putin to act on behalf of our freedom and our security.”

Hoyer introduced the bipartisan H.R. 6437, the “Secure America from Russian Interference Act” — a measure meant to hold Russia accountable for election meddling (since Trump clearly will not). In addition to his speech, Hoyer made this statement:

With President Trump refusing to confront Russia over its ongoing interference in our elections, Congress must step up and take action. That’s why we introduced this bill today – comprehensive legislation to strengthen our election security, hold Russia accountable, and bolster our alliances. I urge Republicans to join House Democrats in bringing this bill to the Floor quickly and sending a strong message of support for our nation’s defense against foreign threats to our democracy by enacting it.”

You can watch Hoyer’s passionate speech below:

Democrats have been basically forced into this position because many Republicans (and the president) refuse to do anything to stand up for and protect America. The Republicans who stand with Democrats on this issue should surely be given credit, but the rest are traitors who are allowing the president to cater to Putin’s vision and advancement of Russia.
