Things are not looking good for Donald Trump. Right as the president is threatening to declare a national emergency because he can’t get the funding for his racist border wall, Fox News has decided to break from the president harder than ever.
Earlier today, Fox News Sunday’s Chris Wallace made an appearance on the network to discuss Trump’s latest move — and blow up his lies. During this segment, Wallace completely debunked Trump’s “border crisis” and pointed out just how dangerous it might be for Trump to declare a national emergency, as it could put him into a Constitutional crisis. Wallace said:
Under the National Emergencies act of 1976, Congress has 15 days to pass a resolution of disapproval. That will almost certainly happen.”
As if that weren’t bad enough, Wallace made sure to add later on that Trump had completely fabricated his border crisis, citing statistics that state migration across the southern border had actually decreased. Wallace even asked, “What national emergency?”:
If you look at the statistics, four times as many people were coming over the border in the year 2000, 1.6 million people were apprehended coming across the border in 2000. Last year it was less than 400,000. So the argument could be yes, there certainly is a problem and yes, people are coming over the border but it is only a fraction, about 25 percent of how many people were coming over in the year 2000. So, what national emergency?
Of course, the president will say it’s a different group. A lot more families, they’re coming from Central America. And under the rules, a law passed in 2007 or 2008, I believe, they aren’t allowed if they’re from Central America as opposed to Mexico to return them right away. The president will make the case it’s a national emergency but you can be sure there will be plenty of people on the other side who will say it isn’t.”
That’s gotta hurt. It’s always a great day when Fox News destroys the president they once spent so much time defending and praising. You can watch this segment below:
