Things really aren’t looking good for conservatives ahead of midterm elections. Not only has Donald Trump completely refused to take any responsibility or action in response to the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting, but several Fox News hosts were just outed for laughing through a news segment about the shooting. And it’s about to get even worse!
Earlier today, Fox host Shepherd Smith only added to the onslaught of bad news surrounding the Republican Party after the Synagogue shooting by continuing to pile on more criticism. As a rare conservative who actually took this tragic incident seriously, Smith spoke of HIAS, the progressive Jewish group that set off the gunman:
There is a Jewish organization that brings refugees. They are lauded and loved in greater Pittsburgh… they’re human rights advocates and they’re helping people who need help.”
Then Smith condemned the gunman in a far stronger statement than the president issued, squashing the racist fake news about the “caravan” that the president has been perpetuating:
He equates that with the … it’s not coming to get you, not caravan of invaders, that politicians are using to gin up fear to get people to the polls. And he says, that was it. He said, ‘I’m going in.’ And he murdered those 11 individuals.”
Smith also called out Trump and conservatives who still continue to believe the divisive rhetoric that is driving the GOP isn’t harmful or responsible for this incident and other recent hate crimes. He said:
Shut up about drawing lines. This rhetoric exists. This man said this thing and now this thing happened. Stop it. Look in the mirror and calm down. You turn up the crazy and the crazies come out.”
This was a direct response to Trump, who recently told reporters that he would like to “tone it up” on the hate speech when he was asked if he’d tone it down after the shooting. Thank goodness there is at least one conservative using their brain. You can watch Smith throw his own party under the bus below:
