Conservatives around America were so happy when Donald Trump won because finally, they felt their harmful far-right agenda would be fulfilled. Now two years into Trump’s presidency, most Trump supporters have realized that they’ve made a terrible mistake — but the nightmare isn’t over for the president’s most religious fans.
Trump has broken yet another promise to his supporters by pretending to be a man who actually cares about the Bible. Just on Monday, Trump praised Bible literacy when he posted a tweet complimenting states that are “starting to make a turn back” to a time where public schools encouraged Bible study (there was actually no such time, by the way). But when you look at the president’s behavior, it seems highly unlikely that he ever stepped foot in a church. And that may actually be pretty close to the truth.
Trump’s former pastor has recently surfaced and shed some light about the state of Trump’s dedication to religion — which is not much. Pastor David Lewicki responded to Trump’s inappropriate tweet on Tuesday to give everyone a reality check about the president. In the tweet, Lewicki explained that he’d been a pastor at New York City’s Marble Collegiate Church for approximately five years in the mid-aughts. In doing so, the pastor revealed that Trump NEVER showed, not for Bible study or service, even though he was on the member rolls. Yet another lie exposed! Lewicki said:
I assure you, he had the ‘option’ to come to Bible study. He never ‘opted’ in. Nor did he ever actually enter the church doors. Not one time.”

Lewicki followed this up with a quote by Irish political figure Edmund Burke, which was quite fitting:
Hypocrisy can afford to be magnificent in its promises, for never intending to go beyond promise, it costs nothing.”
Lewicki also confirmed to the Huffington Post that, Trump “was not an active and visible member of the church.” So much for a man who boasted about his religious upbringing to manipulate gullible conservatives!
