Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is desperately trying to create a new image for himself after practically selling his soul to Donald Trump after he dropped out of the Republican presidential primary. And while any attempts to turn over a new leaf will be pointless for Christie, this is even worse for Trump.
Last night, Christie appeared on Stephen Colbert’s show and may have had a little too much to drink. As he downed shots of tequila provided by Colbert, Christie let loose and boasted about how he’d make a better POTUS than Trump.
In speaking about his new book “Let Me Finish” (which talks about his time with Trump and the crazy amount of backstabbing in Trump’s inner circle), Christie simply says “yes” when Colbert asked if he’d make a better POTUS. Colbert also told Christie that Trump would “throw anybody under the bus” and it was like Colbert had opened the floodgates. Christie said:
You think I don’t know? I got fired from the transition.”
The alcohol must have been getting to Christie, because he started blasting Trump for the shutdown, stating that “the president blew it.” Christie explained:
I said this to him, like, listen, if you’re going to do this, you better have an exit plan because sometimes in politics, things don’t go the way you expect. And so if it doesn’t go well in the first couple of days, you gotta have a way to get it back open.
I just said to him, ‘It’s okay. It’s a power you have and if you want to do it but you have to have a plan so you accomplish something by it and then reopen it.’ And I don’t think, given that it went 35 days, we had a plan.”
Colbert also pressed Christie about why he supported Trump in the 2016 election, which pretty much came down to not letting Hillary Clinton win. Christie said:
I made a decision at the time that he was going to win the nomination after I dropped out, and that I preferred him to Hillary Clinton. And that’s why I made the decision. It wasn’t a whole lot more complicated than that. And I still agree with what his policies are, more than I agree with Hillary Clinton’s.”
Once again, a GOPer exposed himself for caring more about the party than having a sane leader. You can watch the interview below:
