If there’s anyone in Trump world that you really don’t want to be lumped in with, it’s Donald’s personal attorney Rudy Guiliani. The man is perhaps more hairbrained and mentally unstable than even Trump himself. Just a quick glance at his public Fox News appearances is proof enough of that.
But that didn’t stop Donald from doing just that during his phone call with Ukraine that has ultimately led to impeachment proceedings against him.
In the transcript of the call, released by Trump himself in hopes that it would exonerate him but which ultimately just wound up incriminating him even further, there’s a section of the conversation in which Donald lumped his attorney general Bill Barr, who may as well be his personal attorney, into the same category as his actual personal attorney Rudy Guiliani.
“I will have Mr. Giuliani give you a call and I am also going to have Attorney General Barr call and we will get to the bottom of it,” Trump stated to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy according to the memo of the conversation that was released by the White House on Thursday.
Now an individual close to Barr and familiar with his thinking, who was not authorized to speak on the subject and could only release information on the stipulation of anonymity has revealed that Bill was far from happy about Donald’s generalization of him and Rudy when he found out about it.
The source told the Associated Press that Bill was “surprised and angry” when news of the transcript and, most specifically, the manner in which the president referred to him in the conversation made its way to him.
Barr has been one of Trump’s staunchest supporters for some time now, even doing his damndest to get him out of some serious hot water in the wake of the release of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia report — ultimately risking his own ass to do so.
Any human being, much less respectable practicer of the law would immediately resign the moment they discovered they’d been labeled as a political hack by the president of the United States. In fact, CNN’s legal analyst Susan Hennessy pointed this out specifically in a tweet today:
An attorney general with any integrity or self-respect would resign upon learning that the president held them out as a partisan hack open to subverting due process rights of Americans for his political gain. All Barr can muster is “surprised and angry.” https://t.co/WPtX0ijpnX

Trump has literally not only thrown Barr under the proverbial bus, but he’s done so while lumping him in with the likes of Rudy Guiliani. If ever there were a time to recuse oneself, now would be it.
But I have no doubt that Barr will instead continue to do the president’s dirty bidding, as “shocked and angry” as he may be, until he undoubtedly and inevitably goes down in flames right alongside him.
