First Lady Melania Trump has made some VERY interesting wardrobe choices since moving into the White House, and at this point we have to believe that it’s on purpose rather than blatant ignorance.
Remember when Melania wore that disgustingly racist parka when visiting migrant children that her husband separated from their parents at the border? Well Melania has just one-upped herself with another racist message.
The First Lady is currently touring Africa and today, she went on a short safari in Kenya. While she was on the safari, she couldn’t help but offend everyone by wearing an actual pith helmet — which is a symbol of colonial rule in Africa. These helmets were a clear symbol of status and oppression, worn by European explorers throughout the continent. They have since been replaced with less controversial headgear and are basically only worn by tourists who are too ignorant to know any better — or people within the Trump administration who are so privileged and racist they can’t even respect the people they are visiting.
The First Lady was called out right away for this horrible fashion statement. Pauleen Mwalo of Nairobi wrote on Twitter:

It seems as though any attempt by Melania to repair the damage her husband caused when he called several African countries “sh*tholes” has just been ruined. Interestingly enough, the president was seen earlier this week tweeting about how much the First Lady was being embraced. He wrote:

Of course, Trump conveniently left out the fact that Melania has been greeted by protests. And now thanks to her choice in hats, she’s going to be just as hated as her husband.
