It seems that the Trump administration may not be as confident and trustworthy in their beloved dictator as Donald believes they are. And who can blame them? The entire administration is constantly tripping over themselves in an attempt to either clean up a mess that Trump has made or try to prevent him from making another one. If we’re being truthful, the guy is pretty reminiscent of a petulant two-year-old.
As it turns out, former Defense Secretary was one member of the Trump administration that had some pretty serious concerns over the president’s stability. In fact, according to the Washington Post, Mattis was so concerned that he actually made private arrangements to intervene and take action in the event of POTUS putting the country in danger.
It seems that the former Defense Secretary’s major concern was Donald’s access to nuclear launch codes. And again, who can blame the guy? A whiny toddler with a serious attitude problem is the last person that needs the final say so on the big red button. Mattis was so concerned about Trump’s access to these codes that he actually made a promise to Congressional leaders, ensuring that he would watch Trump like a hawk to intercept any attempts Trump made to start a nuclear war.
The Washington Post stated:
Every day, the U.S. nuclear early warning system is triggered by some event or another, mostly civilian and military rocket launches by one or more of a dozen countries with ballistic missiles. When such launches appear to threaten North America, the head of U.S. Strategic Command is alerted, and sometimes these alerts warrant the urgent notification of the president.”
Mattis knew that Trump would eventually get one of these notifications and was seriously concerned at the potential overreaction. That’s why Mattis made arrangements, unbeknownst to Trump, to be notified immediately if such a call were placed to the president.
The Post reported,
For over a year, Mattis has been trying to reassure congressional leaders that he could help check some of Trump’s impulses, in part by intervening in the nuclear chain of command. In a break with normal procedures, Mattis reportedly told the commander of the Strategic Command to keep him directly informed of any event that might lead to a nuclear alert being sent to the president. He even told the Strategic Command ‘not to put on a pot of coffee without letting him know.'”
Anxious lawmakers took Mattis’ promise to mean that he “would either deal with a possible threat before it reached Trump or ensure he was present to advise Trump when such an alert arrived.”
It’s no wonder that Mattis got the hell out of there pretty quickly. This just goes to show how ill-tempered and immature even Trump’s own administration knows he is.
