Internet Erupts In Cheers After Ted Cruz Is Humiliated By Democrat On National Television

This was absolutely brilliant.

Republican U.S. Senator Ted Cruz got tons of hate when he ran during the 2016 presidential election, and he still hasn’t learned his lesson because he’s attempting to stay in government. Right now, Cruz is running for re-election for a second term, facing off against Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke.

Already, it’s not going very well. There’s something distinctively unlikeable about Cruz, and there have even been research articles about why his face looks so punchable. Cruz is one Republican that America loves to hate, so we thought it might be good to let a throwback moment resurface to demonstrate just how much America revels in Cruz’s embarrassment.

Last year, former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates absolutely humiliated Cruz in a powerful testimony that put Cruz right in his place when he tried to make her look stupid. Cruz had called Yates’ resistance of Trump’s travel ban “defying” and he asked her if she was “familiar with 8 U.S.C. Section 1182.” Yates stated she couldn’t recall it off the top of her head, and Cruz took the opportunity to belittle her:

Well, it is the binding statutory authority for the executive order that you refused to implement and that led to your termination so it certainly is a relevant and not terribly obscure statute. Would you agree that that is broad statutory authorization?”

Yates fired back, and absolutely schooled him:

I would, and I am familiar with that and I’m also familiar with an additional provision of the INA that says, ‘No person shall receive preference or be discriminated against in issuance of a VISA because of race, nationality or place of birth.

That, I believe, was promulgated after the statute that you just quoted. And that’s been part of the discussion with the court with respect to the INA, is whether this more specific statute trumps the first one that you just described.

But my concern here was not an INA concern, it rather was a constitutional concern. Whether or not the executive order here violated the constitution, specifically with the establishment clause and due process.”

It was bad enough that this exchange was recorded and Cruz felt like a complete moron in the moment – but he got an extra round of ridicule on Twitter, as America celebrated his destruction. After watching it, MSNBC national security analyst Matthew Miller couldn’t help but ask:

Does Yates get to be the new Senator from Texas? Because she just beat both Cruz and Cornyn to a pulp.”

You can watch Yates tear Cruz apart in a testy exchange below:

Here are some more of the best responses celebrating Yates’ epic takedown of Cruz:

Cruz will never live this down.
