"The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

This week President Trump delivered a speech to the Veterans Of Foreign Wars (VFW) Convention in Kansas City, Missouri. His topics ranged all over the place, prepared for him presumably by someone who actually understands veterans’ issues in a sense other than that caring for them post-war costs money. But as usual, Trump veered wildly off topic and began discussing the media.

He addressed the media’s latest coverage of the ongoing Russia investigation and his administration by Robert Mueller’s Special Counsel, saying:

Stick with us, stick with us… Just stick with us. Don’t believe the crap you see from these people, the fake news.”

Trump went on: “What you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening… Just remember, what you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening.” He mentioned CNN being “the worst” and then went off on a tangent about his other favorite target NBC News. His aim, of course, is to make his followers hate and disbelieve the news, and even those reporting it. During his campaign, NBC’s Katy Tur actually required protection from Trump’s rabid base after he called her out personally multiple times at rallies.

Referencing a recent news piece on his administration, Trump said “It was heart-throbbing. They were interviewing people. They probably go through 20 and then they pick the one that sounds like the worst. But they went through a group of people. In fact, I wanted to say, ‘I have to do something about this Trump.’ Terrible!”

After attacking the media, he went after Democrats and his take on their stance regarding the border and ICE. Watch the speech below:

In a statement to The Hill, VFW spokeswoman Randi Law responded to the crowd’s reaction to Trump’s hysterics:

We were disappointed to hear some of our members boo the press. We rely on the media to help spread the VFW’s message, and CNN, NBC, ABC, FOX, CBS, and others on site today, were our invited guests. We were happy to have them there.”
