Republicans Weigh In On Trump-Putin Summit, The Results Are Tearing America Apart

This is really the last thing you would expect after everything that was said.

Over the last several days following the disastrous performance president Donald Trump gave during his summit with Russian president Vladimir Putin, we’ve seen the opposition to the President of the United States only grow louder. Trump was blasted from both sides of the table, as both Democrats and Republicans criticized Trump for not standing up to Putin and defending Russia even after the fact that Special Counsel Robert Mueller just had 12 Russians indicted over election meddling. That’s why the following news is so shocking.

According to a new joint poll by Axios and SurveyMonkey, most conservatives actually think that Trump handled the Helsinki press conference with Putin splendidly. When we say most, we’re not talking 51 percent. Not even 60 percent. A whopping 79 percent of Republicans think Trump did a great job — even though he basically made America submit to Russia’s will. In comparison, 91 percent of Democrats  and 62 percent of Independents disapproved of Trump’s conduct.

This is unfathomable. During this press conference, Trump clearly took Putin’s word over the evidence provided by U.S. intelligence agencies (even though he later tried to say that he “misspoke,” only to backpedal again). And that’s just fine with Republicans and Trump voters? Clearly, this party is a lot more spineless than we thought.

Interestingly enough, it seems that Republicans may live in their own little alternate reality. This poll comes almost a month after Axios discovered that most conservative voters are siding with Trump in their belief that the media promotes “fake news.” However, all they need to do in order to confirm that Trump bent over backward for Putin is to watch the footage from the press conference. In this instance, they are actively choosing to remain ignorant and uninformed.

This is going to create an even greater political divide in America, as our country’s security and future are at risk. Unfortunately, many Americans are just fine with that.
