Can we please just bring her back?

Michelle Obama is currently in London where she’s taking part in an interview for her up and coming memoir Becoming. During the interview, Michelle blisteringly imparted her thoughts and feelings on the state of America as well as and most specifically on Donald Trump.

Obama stated, “We come from a broken family, we are a little unsettled. Sometimes you spend the weekend with divorced dad. That feels like fun but then you get sick. That is what America is going through. We are living with divorced dad.”

When reporting on Obama’s comments, The Independent claimed that Michelle was only joking when she made that assessment. However, it’s only funny because it’s true.

The 2016 exit poll explains it a little better:

  • 38 percent had a favorable opinion of him (60 percent had an unfavorable one)
  • 33 percent said Trump was “honest and trustworthy”
  • 38 percent said Trump was qualified to be president (61 percent said he was not)
  • 35 percent said he had the temperament to be president

Now, typically speaking, those numbers are indicative of a big fat loser. One of the only reasons that Trump won, aside from the Electoral College, was the fact that four out of ten voters claimed that they wanted a candidate that could incite some change in Washington — and Trump won those votes by 68 percent.

Using the metaphor by CNN‘s Chris Cillizza, America is very reminiscent of the child of a divorce. We didn’t like the way things were going with “mom” so we jumped ship and decided to move in with “dad.” We thought it would be so much better, we’d get to stay up late, eat whatever we want, and get away without doing our homework. But now that the dust is settling, we’re all left with a serious bellyache and some shitty grades.

Trump offered the appeal of a changed nation in the same way a divorced dad offers more fun at his house. But now the nation is sick and tired of dad’s house and we’re begging to just go back home to mom.
