As the hearings for Brett Kavanaugh had everyone on edge today, many Americans were wondering if Trump’s Supreme Court Justice nominee would crack under the pressure and if his accusers would finally see some justice.
While Kavanaugh may have been able to dodge questions about sexually assaulting Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and several other courageous women for most of the hearing, Kavanaugh began to get tired, sloppy, and fall apart toward the end. It was in the final moments of questioning that Kavanaugh seemed to secretly confess, as his body grew exhausted from all the denying and lying.
The last question of the day came from Louisiana Republican Senator John Kennedy, who decided to be blunt and flat-out ask Kavanaugh about the sexual assault allegations that many women have brought forth against him. Kennedy started by asking Kavanaugh if he believed in God. Then he asked the big question.
Looking Kavanaugh straight in the eye, Kennedy asked Kavanaugh about the accusations. Kavanaugh first responded by saying that Ford may have been sexually assaulted, but not by him. Then, Kennedy asked Trump’s SCOTUS nominee if he’d sexually assaulted a Yale classmate by forcing her hand onto his penis while playing a drinking game — and Kavanaugh’s body language gave it all away. As the cameras rolled, a split second reaction from Kavanaugh exposed him in front of everyone — but you have to pay attention to see it.
Anyone who was intently watching this moment could see that Kavanaugh’s head actually started to nod YES before he quickly began denying it. Every expert who specializes in body language will tell you that nodding “yes” even when your words say “no” is a telltale sign of lying.
